The Houston Astros are now in the middle of attention with the sign-stealing scandal linked to their 2017 World Series Title. The Astros won their first-ever World Series in 2017 when they went back and forth against the Los Angeles Dodgers in a seven-game series. They closed out the season in the final game, 5-1.
The league has done their investigations and has fined the Houston Astros 5-Million dollars and stripped them off two top draft picks for sign stealing. MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred, however, has granted immunity to the players involved in the investigation for their participation.
This has sparked a backlash from players across the league and even to the NBA. These athletes feel that the punishment was lukewarm and even devalues the gravity of the scandal. LA Dodgers third baseman Justin Turner was among these unsatisfied athletes.
16-time All-Star and one of the greatest players to ever grace the basketball court Lebron James also spoke out on Twitter about the issue. The LA Laker tweeted that he wouldn’t know what would happen out of his rage if something like that happens to the NBA. “ Listen I know I don’t play baseball but I am in Sports and I know if someone cheated me out of winning the title and I found out about it I would be F*^king irate! I mean like uncontrollable about what I would/could do!”
He then proceeded to add that the players are disgruntled and called out Manfred on his recent decisions. “ Listen here baseball commissioner listen to your players speaking today about how disgusted, mad, hurt, broken, etc etc about this,” the 3-time champion said.
Lebron is one of the more influential athletes in sports. He has used his image to go beyond the basketball court and has started multiple initiatives. His most recent drive is the I Promise School where his foundation funds the education of at-risk children from his hometown in Akron Ohio. This time he is using it again to side and voice out his concern as a fellow sportsman.
