NBA: Los Angeles Lakers' LeBron James Once Again Enters Record Books
Los Angeles Lakers star player LeBron James once again entered record books of the National Basketball Association (NBA) as he became the fifth player in the tournament's history with 12,000 career field goals made.
The small forward clinched the record in Lakers' 114-104 victory over San Antonio Spurs on Monday.
With the record, the 34-year-old James has closed on Chicago Bulls great and NBA Hall of Famer Michael Jordan (12,192), who is fourth on the list, which is topped by Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (15,837) ahead of Karl Malone (13,528) and Wilt Chamberlain (12,681).
On Monday, the Lakers once again were in trouble when they had yet another halftime deficit. However, James, who was playing at a new role of the point guard, remained in top-notch form leading the Lakers in a strong third and fourth quarter.
Although he did not pick his usual rebounds, he struck another double-double and took over as Lakers' primary scorer for the day and proved to be a bit too much for the Spurs. James literally produced a one-man show in the fourth quarter before he finished the match with well-deserving 33 points, three rebounds, 14 assists, and a block.
Even though Lakers have not been outplaying their opponents so far, they still have managed to remain at the top of the table in the Western Conference with a 15-2 record.
After Lakers' victory on Monday night, in a post-match interview, James said, "It’s the same Spurs team I’ve played throughout my whole career. They’re extremely well-coached. If you don’t go in with the mental side, they’ll beat the hell out of you."
While James was the highlight for Lakers, their other star player Anthony Davis had a slow start in the match with just 2 for 10 from the field as he looked hesitant to drive and remained content with jumpers. However, toward the last minutes, even he found his form as he finished with 19 points and 12 rebounds and helped James to close out the game.
