NBA: Nets Desperate For A Kyrie Irving-Anthony Davis Team-Up
The Brooklyn Nets have been all over the news this offseason. And the latest reports claimed that the team has been "going hard" for an Anthony Davis and Kyrie Irving tandem.
Just a few days ago, a rumor surfaced claiming that Celtics All-Star point guard Kyrie Irving and the Nets are already on good terms. Both parties were apparently keeping an eye on each other’s progress, making Irving signing with the Nets very possible.
According to Chris Broussard, the Celtics’ idea of devising a trade for Davis as a way to lure Irving to stay is so good that the Nets seemed to have adopted it for their own advatage. Broussard explained on Fox Sports 1 that the Nets are “going as hard after Anthony Davis as anybody,” Yahoo Sports reported.
The Celtics seem to prove that they really want Irving to stay despite the horrible loss to the Bucks in the Eastern Conference Semifinals.
Kevin Durant was also once linked to the same idea. And with the way things are going, it appears that teams interested in Irving are using Durant and now Davis to persuade the 2012 NBA Rookie of the Year and former NBA champion to play for them.
An interesting angle emerged suggesting that Irving’s suitors, which include his current team Celtics, see two of his best pals Durant and Davis as key factors to make him sign with them, NBC Sports pointed out.
It was revealed in the past few days that the Nets are coming up with a new strategy and are also planning to redesign their core line-up. The Nets are apparently looking to keep their current star D’Angelo Russell with a plan to team him up with Irving to boost the team's backcourt offense.
The Nets currently have Jarrett Allen as their primary inside force and adding Davis to it seems to be the next move. Davis is considered as one of the most prominent centers in the league today alongside Joel Embiid, who is considered to be his counterpart in the Eastern Conference.
Should the Nets succeed in making a deal for Davis and Irving, it will surely bring additional weight to the competition in the NBA’s Eastern Conference. Also, it will not be surprising if experts see this as a potential rival for the stacked line-up of the Western Conference teams, more specifically the Golden State Warriors.
Irving, on the other hand, has yet to release an official statement regarding all the rumors and reports.
