  • Kwame Brown was the top pick of the 2001 NBA Draft
  • Gilbert Arenas recently appeared on Matt Barnes and Stephen Jackson's "All The Smoke" podcast
  • Brown was irked by the three, to which Barnes responded

In light of their recent back and forth on social media, former NBA pro Matt Barnes has told Kwame Brown to go blame Michael Jordan for picking him.

Brown, the top overall pick of the 2001 draft, went on an expletive-filled tirade in his social media account directed at Barnes, as well as his fellow "All The Smoke" podcast host Stephen Jackson and guest Gilbert Arenas.

Arenas appeared on the show last weekend, and Brown apparently was irked by a gesture done by Barnes.

"So I asked my team, 'What did I do? Did I miss something?'" Barnes said in an Instagram video he uploaded on Monday to respond to Brown.

"I tapped Jax's [Jackson's] knee with something that was said, so that's what got you mad. Me tapping somebody's knee. You need a hug bro."

Brown's rants included dragging Derek Fisher's name. The former Los Angeles Lakers guard and Barnes infamously had an off-court fist fight before.

"I was confused because I said nothing about you," Barnes opened his video.

"Obviously, coming for us, you know you're going to get attention, I think that's all you've been searching for."

Barnes, who has played for nine franchises throughout his 14-year career, seemed to apologize to Brown and cleared his name.

"Bro, you've been getting made fun of since you came to the league for not living up to expectations. People laugh and joke about you all the time," Barnes shared.

"Me, I didn't do that. I never laughed, never joked because I don't talk about people like that," he emphasized.

The NBA champion for the Golden State Warriors bared he even tried reaching out to Brown privately to address the issue, prior to the big man going off on the internet.

"I [direct-messaged] you like a man, because I felt that if there's something about what I really said, we can talk about it," Barnes said

"But you chose to ignore that, and type your s--- to the internet."

Barnes went on to mention one of the all-time greats in his video, leaving Brown with more smack talk.

"If you want to be mad at anybody, be mad at MJ (Jordan) for believing in you and picking you no. 1," he said.

"I didn't do that. I don't know. I never talked about you, I tried to go at you like a man but you chose to go to the internet so it is what it is, straight up."

Jordan was part of the Washington Wizards front office when the franchise drafted Brown in 2001.

Brown, regarded as one of the biggest draft busts in league history, averaged 6.6 points and 5.5 rebounds in his 11-year career.
