KEY POINTS

  • Anthony Davis wants to play more games is tired of seeing the Lakers struggle
  • Davis is unlikely to get his wish with the Lakers preserving him for the playoffs
  • Other players are holding up the fort for the team

Anthony Davis of the Los Angeles Lakers may have just returned, but the eight-time NBA All-Star wants to do more.

He is aware that his team is struggling and knows that he cannot just sit back and do nothing.

The Lakers have managed to keep their campaign afloat through the efforts of players like Montrezl Harrell, Dennis Schroder and Kyle Kuzma to name a few.

But with LeBron James also sitting on the sidelines, it comes to no surprise that the 6-foot-10 big man wants to defy the odds and play more games. That includes their back-to-back outings. The inclusive dates are: May 6-7, May 11-12 and May 15-16.

As far as Davis is concerned, "The Brow" believes that he has had enough rest.

"I missed 30 games, so I think I had enough rest … I plan on playing both ends of [the coming] back to backs," Davis was quoted as saying to Lakers reporter Mike Trudell.

While Davis’ sentiment is understandable, he also needs to understand that he is being preserved for the tougher grind once the NBA playoffs come around.

On Saturday, he played 28 minutes against the Dallas Mavericks where he scored 17 points. It was an improvement from his performance two days prior against the same team, where he scored only four markers.

In his last outing against the Orlando Magic, he finished with 18 points and eight rebounds as the Lakers won, 114-103.

A healthy Davis could do better, but he just needs to be patient and wait.

Although Davis wants to play in back-to-back contests, the final say will still be on the Lakers’ management.

Things could be different in the coming weeks--with James possibly back from a high ankle sprain.

It will be a bumpy ride, but head coach Frank Vogel is managing expectations to make sure that the Lakers don’t fall out of the mix dramatically.
