NBA News: Chicago Bulls Primed For Resurgent Season After Early Free Agency Success

Free agency is one of the most exciting times to be a fan of the NBA, and the Chicago Bulls are very much enjoying it themselves.

The six-time champions of the NBA are holding their own this offseason after signing players to reasonable contracts.

Lonzo Ball and his four-year, $85 million contract went to them via sign-and-trade, Los Angeles Lakers favorite Alex Caruso joined on a four-year, $37 million deal, and most surprising of them all is getting DeMar DeRozan to join on a sign-and-trade deal with the San Antonio Spurs.

Seemingly overnight, the Chicago Bulls have transformed from perennial Eastern Conference cellar dwellers to a potential powerhouse.

General manager Marc Eversley and vice president of basketball operations Artūras Karnišovas have made massive changes to the franchise since they were assigned to take control of the franchise from Gar Forman and John Paxson last May 2020.

The new management looked hesitant to make a move and then decided to pull the trigger from out of nowhere with the Orlando Magic.

The Magic traded Nikola Vucevic and Al-Farouq Aminu to the Bulls for Wendell Carter Jr., Otto Porter Jr. and two first-round picks at the trade deadline, leading Bulls fans to be excited about their future.

With Ball, Caruso and DeRozan joining Zach LaVine and Vucevic in Chicago, the team looks set for success.

The Ball signing is one that fans are eager to see unfold as he continued his development with the New Orleans Pelicans and finished last season with averages of 14.6 points, 4.8 rebounds, 5.7 assists, and 1.5 steals.

He is a great playmaker that will surely take that pressure off from LaVine as well as allow him to get buckets from anywhere on the court.

Ball is also primed for solid pick-and-roll action with Vucevic as the big man can dominate the paint and also space the floor.

Then there’s DeRozan who can act as a tertiary playmaker behind LaVine and Ball, allowing the two to operate as shooters as the former slices up the midrange for an easy jumper or kick out to either guard.

Patrick Williams had a solid rookie outing last year, and he’s poised to make a big leap this year as his squad is full of veterans that are still in their prime.

There are a lot of mentors for him to soak knowledge from throughout the season, and he will be a key piece of the Bulls moving forward.

On paper, the Bulls are a contender for the Eastern Conference title and it will be exciting to see what the front office does in the remaining days of free agency as they look to round out the roster with bench depth.
