NBA News: Documentary Sheds More Light On Lakers Newly-Acquired Star Guard
KEY POINTS
- Russell Westbrook's documentary will air on October 15 on Showtime
- Westbrook hopes the documentary will give NBA fans a better look at his career
- Westbrook's future after the 2021-22 NBA season is a big question mark
Throughout the years, there have been a lot of claims and criticism about Russell Westbrook.
Some have branded him as a ball-dominant player, overlooking the achievements he has accomplished in the NBA.
Westbrook starts a new NBA chapter with the Los Angeles Lakers, a tenure that some see will be short-lived.
There are a lot of things tied to that, include money and how he can co-exist with other stars such as Anthony Davis and LeBron James starting this 2021-22 season.
Regardless, it cannot be denied that Westbrook is an established basketball name. He copped the 2017 NBA MVP and is a nine-time All-Star.
The only missing piece is an NBA title, something he could add if the Lakers go all the way.
Backtracking a bit, not all know what Westbrook went through to get where he is. All that should be answered with a documentary that the 32-year-old is producing with Showtime.
The documentary will focus on the NBA star’s rise from high school to the professional ranks. He made the revelation via a report from The Bleacher Report.
“I’m proud to share this documentary and give audiences an inside look into who I really am on and off the court,” Westbrook said. “There are a lot of misconceptions about me, but I’m ready to share my story and my journey with my fans.”
The documentary should shed more light on who Westbrook is and address misconceptions about him as a basketball player and as a person.
“Passion Play: Russell Westbrook” should be interesting to check out, something that is set to air on all Showtime platforms starting October 15 at 9:00 p.m. E.T.
Production of the film began before the 2019-20 season when Westbrook was still with the Houston Rockets.
Former teammates such as Kevin Love and Nick Collison had exclusive interviews in the said documentary.
Beyond that, all eyes will be on Westbrook this coming season with the Lakers. His arrival makes Los Angeles a team to watch again although there are qualms about the team’s aging roster.
