NBA News: Ex-Cavs Player Weighs In On Possibly Seeing LeBron James Play With Son
KEY POINTS
- David Magley hopes to see LeBron James play with his son Bronny in the NBA
- Magley says it's too early to determine if Bronny is already ready for NBA action
- The clock may be ticking for LeBron as he will turn 38 years old this coming December
LeBron James of the Los Angeles Lakers remains at the top of his game at the age of 37-years-old.
Injuries may have slowed him down, but there is no doubt that the four-time NBA champion can still play ball at a pretty high level.
There is no telling how long the 18-time All-Star will stick around. Winning another NBA title has been suggested, but “The King” aired his wish of hopefully getting the chance of playing alongside his eldest son Bronny once he is ready to make the jump to the pros.
The Basketball League President and former NBA player David Magley weighed in on the chances of seeing Bronny play with LeBron when he appeared on the Sports For All PH podcast about it.
“[I think] he (LeBron James) would love to. But I mean 37 now and I’ve seen Bronny play in only twenty, thirty-second highlights. I don’t know how good he really is. I mean, is he an NBA player? I don’t know,” said Magley, who was picked by the Cleveland Cavaliers in the second round of the 1982 NBA Draft.
While most feel that Bronny has the genes to douse water on those doubts, Magley stressed it would be something special and unbelievable in the event it does happen.
“If he is, how cool would that be? I mean to be playing for a year or two with your son? It would be unbelievable,” the 62-year-old former player of the Cleveland Cavaliers added.
Seeing Bronny play with his dad is possible but everything may depend on the durability of his dad in the coming years. So far, injuries aside, that may happen.
As far as Magley can remember, the closest to a potential father-and-son tandem playing pro ball was the case of Jamario and Xavier Moon who both played for the Albany Patroons in 2018.
Jamario had stints with several NBA teams from 2007 to 2012, while Xavier got three 10-day contracts with the Los Angeles Clippers from December to January this season.
“We had a player in our league named Xavier Moon. In his first year, he played in our league and now he is playing in the NBA. He played with his uncle, Jamario Moon. So how cool is that to play with your uncle in pro basketball? That’s pretty cool,” Magley shared.
