NBA News: Lakers Legend Feels LeBron James, Anthony Davis Doing Too Much
KEY POINTS
- Magic Johnson feels Anthony Davis should stop ranting about not wanting to play center
- Johnson believes that the Lakers need a shooter to help LeBron James and Davis
- The Lakers legend suggests James should step back a bit to recover
Earvin “Magic” Johnson knows that for the Los Angeles Lakers to get back, they need to make big changes this offseason.
He knows that the Lakers have relied heavily on LeBron James and Anthony Davis last season despite both being not in 100% condition
The Lakers are expected to try and pull off some moves this summer although it won’t be easy.
The reason behind this is their financial situation, meaning they would have to trade off some assets.
The most notable name mentioned is Kyle Kuzma. The 25-year-old is the sole remnant of the group of talented young players who were supposed to be the future of the franchise.
Kuzma has struggled to co-exist with the All-Star roster, and most feel it may be in his best interest to take his act to another team and come out of his shell.
Kuzma could follow the rise of former Lakers such as Julius Randle, Brandon Ingram, Jordan Clarkson and Lonzo Ball.
He is likely to be a key part of any trade package that general manager Rob Pelinka will try to arrange.
If the suggestion of Johnson is to be taken seriously, the Lakers will be looking for a shooter this summer when he appeared on ESPN’s KJZ. That could take some load off James and Davis, particularly in the scoring department.
However, that is not the only thing that the Lakers need to do. He feels Davis should man up and accept the role of playing center.
If the 28-year-old wants to win, he needs to stop issuing statements that he does not want to play the center position.
The suggestions of Johnson may not be far from what pundits are saying after the team’s disappointing exit in the first round of the Western Conference playoffs.
There will be major changes and some old faces are likely to be let go for Los Angeles to take in a new star-caliber talent.
