NBA News: Lakers Three-Time Campaigner Unruffled By Team’s Struggles This Season
KEY POINTS
- Dwight Howard believes the Lakers can still find success moving forward
- Howard points out that safety is of utmost priority right now
- The Lakers' record is far from impressive but acceptable for now
Dwight Howard has never fallen short of words in the face of adversity.
He knows that his team, the Los Angeles Lakers, are not exactly performing at the level most expected them to be at.
Regardless, the eight-time All-Star is unruffled and believes the Lakers still have a shot at success.
Speaking to TMZ Sports, Howard stressed that he was not worried and added that the main focus right now is the safety of all against the dreaded COVID-19 virus.
“Everything is about safety right now, making sure everybody is safe and healthy. But for me, I just got out of the COVID protocols. I understand people’s concerns but I think if you got your immune system right, then you’d be good to go. I’m not really concerned about it,” Howard stated.
The Lakers are in a situation that they placed themselves in. The team is oozing with talent, some of whom could be a starter for any other NBA team.
Chemistry has been a problem, something that head coach Frank Vogel has yet to resolve.
Aside from that, injuries and the NBA’s health and safety protocols have contributed to the factors that are depriving the team of having a fully-healthy roster in games.
Howard himself was placed in the NBA’s health and safety protocols. He was recently cleared, but there are still other players who have yet to follow him.
Others under the COVID protocol include Trevor Ariza, Kent Bazemore, Avery Bradley, Malik Monk and Austin Reaves.
Moreover, injuries have hampered the run of several stars.
Davis is out for at least four weeks, while LeBron James had his share of missing games earlier in the season.
Also, there is Kendrick Nunn. The 26-year-old guard has yet to play a game for the Lakers this season due to a knee injury.
The current record of the Lakers (16-16) may not be what critics were expecting but will do for now.
But the reality is that the Lakers need to pick up the pace moving forward if they desire to have a remarkable playoff run and hopefully make it to the NBA Finals at the least.
