KEY POINTS

  • Ben Simmons has been slapped with fines and suspension due to his absence
  • The Sixers show they are ready to move on with or without Simmons
  • Simmons has not been paid a dime since rejoining the 76ers

Ben Simmons returned to the Philadelphia 76ers, but the move was seen as nowhere near being half-hearted.

It was all about saving his financial interest, but slowly that intent is dissipating.

His presence was nothing more than for being in attendance with his heart and soul seemingly not there. This was already detailed in a previous post.

Roughly 24 hours later, it was reported that Ben Simmons was fined for conduct detrimental to the team, NBC Sports reported.

Hence, the former NBA top pick is set to miss Philly’s opener on Friday, October 22 against the New Orleans Pelicans.

“I didn’t think he wanted to do what everybody else was doing. It was early [in practice]. It wasn’t a big deal. I just told him he should leave then, and we went on with practice,” Rivers was quoted saying.

The scenes from the Sixers practices last Tuesday, October 19 need no deeper evaluation. It was pretty clear that he was physically present but mentally somewhere else.

However, missing the season opener may not matter to the Australian cager who undoubtedly wants out and get that NBA trade.

While that is obvious, Simmons' plan of saving the money from his deal with the organization may be backfiring.

Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reported that the 6-foot-11 player has been fined for missing preseason games and other team activities, and hasn’t earned a single penny since rejoining the Sixers.

Given those facts, the Simmons-Sixers relationship seems to be beyond repair. It seems that the club's front office is just waiting on offers, and nothing has come close.

Despite the problems they have with Simmons, Daryl Morey wants a superstar player in exchange to make it worth their while.

Some teams have offered multiple players and assets, but it appears that won’t be enough to sway a Simmons trade.

No one knows what is going on in Simmon's mind right now, and it remains to be seen what he and his management will try to resort to next.
