  • Jordan once explained how Iverson could beat him in a 1-on-1 game

A recent stat revealed that only Allen Iverson was the player who outscored Michael Jordan during his prime.

The 10-part documentary “The Last Dance” has brought back some of the greatest rivalries Jordan had in his stellar career. Back in the late 80s to almost the entire 90s, Jordan dominated the entire NBA. Throughout the course of his prime, he rivaled with an array of lethal scorers and all-time greats. However, MJ incredibly managed to outscore all of them in almost every duel.

Indeed, no one can ever doubt Jordan’s scoring ability. But according to recent stat from “Crazy Stats,” a research media group specializing on “outside the box” NBA statistics, Sixers legend Iverson was the only player who outscored Jordan during his prime.

“During his tenure with the Bulls, Michael Jordan faced 983 opponents. He outscored 982 of them. The only player who outscored him is Allen Iverson (Iverson - 27.1, Jordan - 24.0),” Crazy Stats wrote.

Without a doubt, Iverson has proven that he can really score in bunches over much bigger opponents. In fact, he’s iconic crossover-pull-up jumpshot over Jordan r emains one of the greatest highlights in NBA history.

Since then, Jordan acknowledged Iverson’s abilities and during a guest appearance on one of the basketball summer camps back in 1998, MJ addressed the move and lauded the young “AI” for living up the hype in front of thousands of people in attendance. What’s even more interesting was that Jordan actually envisioned how Iverson could beat him in a 1-on-1 game following the said move.

“That was a great move. I’m never the type of guy that says; I can’t get shown up. I just try to limit these opportunities. So, I’m not going to try to make it 1-on-1 between Allen Iverson and myself. You never know, if we play 1-on-1 again, I think he could beat me on the perimeter, but I could take him on the post,” Jordan said.

Looking back, Iverson and Jordan’s friendship wasn’t perfect. According to Iverson himself, they kind of got off the wrong foot as he can still vividly remember Jordan telling him “ “What’s up you little b---h?” And this happened during their very first encounter back in Iverson’s rookie season.

Iverson also played a significant role in Jordan’s second comeback in 2001. On April 16, 2003, MJ played his final NBA game and it was against Iverson and the Sixers. The GOAT was given a standing ovation by everybody including Iverson, who was at his prime at the time.
