NBA: Philadelphia 76ers Standout With A Hotter Streak Than Simmons And Embiid
KEY POINTS
- Ben Simmons and Joel Embiid are the star players for the Philadelphia 76ers
- The Philadelphia 76ers are currently fifth in the Western Conference Standings
- Furkan Korkmaz has been on a hot streak scoring in back-to-back 30-point games
The Philadelphia 76ers are currently in fifth place of the Eastern Conference Standing. Although they’re considered as one of the top teams in the conference, they’ve had their ups and downs. They’re catching up to the number four Miami Heat as they have a 33-21 win-loss record.
Joel Embiid has missed a quite number of games with a series of injuries. But in the 38 games he’s played this year he’s averaged 22.8 points and 12 rebounds per game. Ben Simmons also is also putting up All-Star stats with 16.8 points, 8.3 assists and 7.9 rebounds per outing. The two have been the cornerstone of the franchise and are trying to lift the 76ers to the next level.
But in the past two games, it wasn’t Joel Embiid or Ben Simmons who took center stage. It was Turkish shooting guard Furkan Korkmaz who balled out and displayed his basketball prowess.
He recently scored his career-high against the Memphis Grizzlies with 34 points. He tallied also six rebounds, four assists and seven three-pointers. He was on fire that night as he shot 13/17 from the field.
The six-foot-seven guard then followed it up with a 31 point outing in a 118-111 victory against the Chicago Bulls. He made six baskets beyond the arc and contributed with three steals this time tallying a 12/17 shooting display.
His back-to-back games with 30 plus points are the first for the 76ers this season.
He is also the first in the NBA this year to have a back-to-back 30-point game coming off the bench.
With the second half of the season underway, it’s likely that the former Basketball Champions League standout will get more minutes for the Philadelphia 76ers. They will be facing the LA Clippers in their next matchup.
The LA Clippers are currently fighting for a top spot in the Western Conference with a 37-16 record, tied with the Denver Nuggets. Although one of the main highlights of the matchup will be the defensive duel of Kawhi Leonard and Ben Simmons, the league should have a lookout for Furkan Korkmaz who is ready to hoist up threes at any given moment.
