NBA Playoffs 2018 Odds: Warriors, Cavaliers, Celtics, Spurs, Rockets Considered Postseason Locks
Only a handful of teams are considered a real threat to win the 2018 NBA Finals, but more than half the league will at least be given the chance to compete for a championship in the playoffs. That’s because 16 of the 30 teams will reach the postseason, and most of last year’s playoff teams are expected to make a return.
As the odds-on favorites to win the title after winning two of the last three championships, the Golden State Warriors are considered virtual locks to make the playoffs. The same goes for the Cleveland Cavaliers, who also have 1/100 betting odds to reach the postseason. It’d be stunning to see the Boston Celtics (1/25), San Antonio Spurs (1/25) and Houston Rockets miss the playoffs, as well.
The Oklahoma City Thunder have 1/15 playoff odds after pairing Paul George and Carmelo Anthony with Russell Westbrook. The team is hoping to compete with the Spurs and Rockets as the biggest challengers to the Warriors in the Western Conference.
The Minnesota Timberwolves have the best playoff odds of any team that didn’t reach the postseason a year ago. They traded for Jimmy Butler and signed Jeff Teague in the offseason, possibly making them a top-five team in the West.
Trading away Butler has turned Indiana into the playoff team that’s considered the least likely to return. The Atlanta Hawks are second in that category, having lost both Dwight Howard and Paul Millsap in the offseason.
