Phoenix Suns veteran guard Ricky Rubio opened up about how he would fit in with his new team this season.

Some in NBA are still unsure about how the Phoenix Suns will perform this season. Despite having a lot of superteams ahead of them in the West, Suns’ veteran guard and international NBA star Rubio remains positive about how he could help the team.

In a quick interview with Fanatics View, Rubio shared his thoughts about his new team. According to the Spaniard, the Suns may not possess the talent that other teams have but they have the heart to compete against the best.

“A lot of guys step up, that says a lot about the heart of this team,” Rubio said.

Rubio even emphasized that the Suns aren’t really focusing on winning more games. Instead, the team is after “building culture” and based on his assessment, the team is “on the right path.”

“It’s not about winning or losing right now, it’s about building a culture and I think we’re on the right path,” Rubio explained.

During the start of the season, Rubio missed 5 straight games due to injury. And now that he has already returned, he admitted that it was “hard” not to be out there to help the team win.

“(I’ve been) trying to get some extra energy from the bench. It’s hard when you’re not out there,” Rubio admitted.

When asked about specifying how he could help the Suns this season, Rubio pointed out that “being unselfish” is what he will bring to the table. He also noted that as a veteran, he is fully aware that playing as one unit will be one of the key factors for the team to be competitive this year.

“Being unselfish. I think that’s a huge step forward,” Rubio pointed out.

A few days ago, Suns star Devin Booker expressed his real thoughts about Rubio being sidelined in the beginning of the season. According to Booker, it was tough to miss a player like Rubio who is highly capable of mixing things up for the team. He also admitted that veteran guard is one of the reason for their early success.

“Missing somebody like him is tough. It gives us a whole different dynamic and was a reason for a lot of our success early,” Booker said of Rubio.

Rubio has been efficient in his return. After playing 13 games for the Suns, Rubio already averaged 13.5 points that go along with an impressive 7.8 assists per game.
