NBA: RJ Barrett, Knicks Roster Confident 'Talented' Knicks Can Compete Next Season
Knicks players are confident they can deliver despite being viewed as underdogs next season.
The New York Knicks is highly viewed as “underdogs” next season after they missed out badly on Kevin Durant’s free agency. But despite not being regarded as contenders, RJ Barrett and some of his Knicks teammates are confident that they can compete with the NBA’s superteams.
A few days ago, Knicks young core Allonzo Trier spoke with Ian Begley of SNY. During the interview, Trier addressed the Knicks roster and revealed his expectations coming into 2019-20 NBA season.
According to Trier, their team is very talented and the plan is to execute Coach Fizdale’s plays. He also pointed that they will have no excuses for it since he believes that the team has a lot of talented players who can deliver.
"Just come in and be better. Obviously, there's no question that we have more talent across the board, which can always be more helpful. Now it will be on us to execute Coach Fizdale's plan for us and to come together and find a way to be a better basketball team, which there should be no excuse for with the talent that we have coming into this season. It will be a great opportunity for us," Trier stated.
Aside from Trier, Barrett also revealed that he is excited to share the basketball court with some of the greatest players in the league. According to the rookie sensation, he’s confident he’ll do well as a match-up against James Harden and Giannis Antetokounmpo, Elite Sports NY noted.
“I’m actually kind of more looking forward to playing against James Harden because that would definitely be my matchup at my position, and definitely Giannis,” Barrett revealed.
Barrett also added that everybody will do their best next season and they will do the same thing especially on offense.
“Everybody’s good. Everybody’s going to do their thing every single night, so you’ve just got to try to make it as hard on them as you can and then you’ve got to play better on offense ,” Barrett added.
Newly signed Knick Taj Gibson also expressed his determination to win in New York. In a recent interview, Gibson unveiled what his former coach, Tom Thibodeau told him as soon as he became a Knick, Yahoo Sports reported.
“Thibodeau: ‘If anyone is capable of playing in New York, you're a New York-style player.' He knows me that I will play hard every night," Gibson said.
