The Phoenix Suns have yet to resolve their guard problem, even as they continue their tumble down the Western Conference. That issue would have been addressed with the acquisition of Austin Rivers, but most know by now that the 26-year-old has instead joined the Houston Rockets.

As mentioned in a previous post, the reason behind that is both parties agreed that Rivers would be best off with a team making a run at the playoffs. So now, the Suns find themselves skimming the market for free agents or teams whose point guards could be on the block by the February trade deadline.

There are plenty of names to consider for the position, a critical one that could become the cornerstone of the Suns. The names of Frank Ntilikina, Lonzo Ball and Terry Rozier have been mentioned, all of whom carry the potential to restore order for the troops of head coach Igor Kokoskov.

Of the three, Rozier had already been discussed in another past post. The brief on that is that the Suns could offer Kelly Oubre Jr. to the Boston Celtics in exchange for the guard who many believe will be dealt out eventually.

If not Rozier, Ntilikina of the New York Knicks could be an alternative. While he has not exactly blossomed in Gotham, a change in scenery could do wonders. He is unlikely to catch a break with the Knicks, seeing as how he has to jockey with the likes of Emmanuel Mudiay and Trey Burke. Also, add to the fact that they are trying to clear some cap room, sending off the French guard via trade is a possible scenario, New York Post reported.

The third option, Ball, seems like a long shot, but anything can happen in the NBA. Despite a rocky relationship with the franchise, Ball has shown glimpses of promise with the time he is used on the floor by head coach Luke Walton. Ball was actually one of the players the Suns tried to ask in exchange for Trevor Ariza, something the Lakers obviously did not bite into, USA Today reported.

That NBA trade is over and done with, but anything may still happen by February or even the summer. But all that depends on a couple of precedents, including the possible Lakers' move to free up some space in the event they do become a potential stop for coveted big man Anthony Davis.
