This coming NBA free agency is expected to be a wacky one with plenty of NBA stars skimming the market for the best next stop. But there is one player who is expected to join the mix – Anthony Davis of the New Orleans Pelicans.

Davis does have a player option to become a free agent after next NBA season but it seems he wants out in a hurry. In fact, he has already made it known that he does not plan to sign a contract extension with the Pelicans - one that is worth approximately $240 million spread over five years, Forbes.com reported. The last team to make a ridiculous offer was the Los Angeles Lakers and most know how things got botched up. Regardless, the purple and gold is expected to make another run at The Brow this summer.

NBA fans know what Anthony Davis can do. He is one of the elite big men right now so any team can gain heavily if they are able to hook him up. However, seeing someone make trade demands can work both ways. There are some players who have done that in the past, only to end up seeing their career decline and retire without an NBA title.

That, of course, remains to be seen. But one thing Davis may want to be careful of is following the plight of another NBA All-Star, Carmelo Anthony. Since leaving the Denver Nuggets, Melo has been struggling to find the right team. He has made several stops to New York Knicks, Oklahoma City Thunder and the Houston Rockets. None blossomed and the 34-year-old forward found himself sitting out the majority of the 2018-19 NBA season.

Of course, Davis and Anthony are two different players. Aside from the former being younger, he possesses height that makes him a tempting target. Los Angeles is a prime target for AD, obviously to team up with LeBron James and hopefully rise to stardom. But at the way things are looking right now, seeing that happen seems a bit remote. Worse, it would be the Pelicans’ call, Fansided reported.

Should they give up and finally trade Davis, New Orleans wants assets in exchange. It won’t come cheap – meaning it will include multiple players and possibly future picks. The Lakers do not have that luxury right now, meaning they may not have enough resources to pull it off.

Hence, Davis may have to find another point of destination and there are several to choose from. Among the teams that have tempting personnel includes the Los Angeles Clippers or the New York Knicks. They have plenty of young players and of course draft options that could be tempting for David Griffin and company to consider.
