NBA Rumors: Clippers Interested In Signing Free Agent Guard

The Los Angeles Clippers have already been installed as the favorites for the 2020 NBA championship after they signed Kawhi Leonard in free agency and acquired Paul George via trade from the Oklahoma City Thunder. Doc Rivers’ team still completing their roster for the upcoming campaign have one or two slots remaining and they are looking at various players available via trade or in free agency.

Andre Iguodala has been one of the Clippers’ main targets to fill the potential sixth man role. The three-time NBA champion was traded by the Golden State Warriors to the Memphis Grizzlies as part of the sign-and-trade deal that took Kevin Durant to Brooklyn Nets and D’Angelo Russell in the opposite direction.

The Los Angeles franchise’s move for the 2015 NBA Finals MVP, however, depends on if he completes a buyout of his contract with the Grizzlies which at the moment looks unlikely. ESPN’s Dave McMenamin is now reporting that the Clippers have turned their attention to Leonard’s former teammate Jodie Meeks, who is currently a free agent.

“Free agent guard Jodie Meeks, fresh off a championship with the Raptors, has drawn interest from the Clippers and Hornets, league sources tell ESPN. A career 37.3 percent 3-point shooter, he shot 44.4 percent from 3 in spot duty with Toronto,” McMenamin wrote.

Meeks played just eight games for the Raptors last season but can call himself an NBA champion after the Raptors’ 4-2 win over the Warriors. He averaged 6.4 points and 1.5 rebounds in 13 minutes per game but has a healthy 37.3 percent career shooting from the three-point range.

The Clippers will be a major draw for free agents and veterans looking for a one-year deal and be part of the roster that is packed with talent. They are certain to go further than their first round playoff appearance in 2019 next season, with many claiming that city rivals Los Angeles Lakers will be the only team capable of stopping them making the finals.
