KEY POINTS

  • Chicago Bulls may consider Jeff Green to help in the forward spot
  • Bulls need to tweak roster to make room for Green
  • Green is a good three-point shooter and defender any team could use

Some NBA players are getting moved while others are being let go. One of the players that recently got the pink slip is Jeff Green. However, the 33-year-old may not be unemployed for long with several teams in need of a small forward. One team in need is the Chicago Bulls.

Citing league sources, it was Shams Charania of The Athletic who revealed that the Jazz are waiving Green. The 5th overall pick of the 2007 NBA Draft played 29 games for the Jazz where he started twice. He averaged 7.8 points, 2.8 rebounds and 0.6 assists. These numbers are a far cry from what he produced with the Washington Wizards last season (12.3 points, 4.0 rebounds), NBC Sports reported.

Green signed a one-year $2.6 million deal with the Jazz this 2019-20 NBA season. Teams who are interested can pick him up within 48 hours and pay him his existing salary. If that window lapses. the 6-foot-8 forward will clear waivers and can sign for any amount.

The move to waive Green ironically coincides with the signing of Rayjon Tucker. The G League guard will get a multi-year contract. He has been performing well with the Wisconsin Herd and was pursued by several teams, ESPN reported. It was not mentioned if his signing was connected with the waiving of Green.

As far as Green is concerned, one team that could pick him up would be the Chicago Bulls. With Otto Porter Jr. and Chandler Hutchinson out due to injuries, the journeyman forward could be a sensible addition. Looking beyond his numbers, Green can shoot from the three-point region and ramp up the Bulls defensive end.

Should the Bulls be interested, a roster move to accommodate Green will be needed. They currently have a full roster with 17 players.

Green was at his best back during the 2013-14 NBA season with the Boston Celtics. He averaged 17.6 points, 4.3 rebounds and 1.6 assists that season. In his career, he is 33.3-percent from rainbow country. The Bulls tote a 12-20 win-loss record in the Eastern Conference but still have a mathematical chance of making the postseason wars.

For the Jazz, the signing of Tucker and waiving of Green follows the Jordan Clarkson for Dante Exum trade. Utah is currently at 6th spot in the Western Conference and the coming of the Filipino-American guard is seen as a move to help boost their scoring prowess.
