NBA Rumors: Dwyane Wade Wants To Own Miami Heat Next

Dwyane Wade is on the verge of wrapping his NBA career, but it seems he will not entirely leave the world of basketball. The 37-year-old bared his wish to own an NBA team someday, and he has been consulting several NBA greats about it.

Wade's interest in owning an NBA team was recently revealed by the Miami Herald. The first team that comes to mind is, of course, the Miami Heat. Unfortunately, all that may be no better than a dream with the Arison family showing no signs or intent of selling the franchise.

Looking beyond South Beach, Wade could take aim at other teams which could be looking for buyers. But before that, the fifth overall pick of the 2003 NBA Draft may want to get his feet wet first and try to see how things are done in the front office.

Wade could do just that after he wraps up his playing NBA career with the Heat. The three-time NBA champion could agree to take on a front office role with the Heat and learn a thing or two from there.

“You want to learn that side. You want to be a continued part of helping the game grow. For me, I would love to be a continued part of helping this organization grow,” said Wade.

Owning and managing an NBA team will require a lot of responsibility, something that Wade admits he is not yet ready to do, Heat Nation reported. It is a process and Wade added that he intends to reach out Michael Jordan (Charlotte Hornets) or even Magic Johnson (Los Angeles Lakers), two NBA greats who have made the jump from player to a front office post and/or owner.

Should Wade fulfill that wish of running his own team, he may not be doing it solo. It seems that Heat teammate Udonis Haslem also has that in mind. The Heat may be at the top of the list but it looks like both will have to expand their options and consider another team that would be up for sale.

Wade and Haslem's next step hardly comes as a surprise since most players have that privilege once their playing days are over. The Heat is a target but only if the Arison family eventually decide to sell the NBA team. If that is far from happening, the best the two can do for now is get a front office job and see how things are done outside the basketball court.
