  • Kendrick Nunn could be finally playing soon for the Lakers following Vogel’s update
  • The Lakers may be preparing to unleash Nunn following the recent Rondo trade
  • Nunn’s fit in the Lakers’ system will only be known once he is inserted into the mix

Kendrick Nunn was one of the big pickups of the Los Angeles Lakers in the offseason, but the former Miami Heat guard has yet to play a single minute.

Lakers coach Frank Vogel provided an interesting update on the status of the 26-year-old guard, someone who can contribute both on offense and defense.

“I just talked to one of our assistant coaches about the work he did today. And he definitely looks like he's getting closer to where we need him. Still don't have a timetable on it, other than to say he's getting close,” Vogel revealed in a report by the Los Angeles Times.

Nunn signed a two-year deal worth $10.25 million, NBA.com reported.

Unfortunately, he has yet to see action after dealing with ailments in his ankle and knees.

But if one puts the recent moves of the Lakers together, it could also hint at Nunn possibly seeing action soon.

Rajon Rondo has been shipped to the Cleveland Cavaliers, one less guard that Vogel needs to worry about.

But the question is, will Nunn be up to the task and prove his worth once he is cleared to play?

While the Lakers need all the help they can get, others have been stepping up.

Malik Monk and Avery Bradley are doing their best to hold up the fort, but Los Angeles has hardly benefitted from it as they continue to struggle.

The only way to see if Nunn lives up to expectations is if he finally sees action.

Vogel is aware of that and is upbeat about seeing Nunn finally play his first official game as a Laker.

“[We’ve] got to throw him into the mix and see what he looks like in our system before we can make any real determinations about what his role is going to be,” Vogel stated.

On paper, there is no doubt that Nunn can do a lot. But unless he can blend in with his Lakers teammates, the young guard’s efficiency remains up in the air.
