  • Dennis Schroder alleges he never got an $84 million contract offer from the Lakers
  • Schroder wants to play for a team where he fits in
  • Schroder will use the coming season to possibly earn a huge offer next summer

Dennis Schroder is set to restart his NBA career anew with the Boston Celtics and prove that he is a star worth investing in.

Most know that the German guard drew a lot of flak before that, dating back to the time he was reportedly offered an $84 million contract extension by the Los Angeles Lakers.

According to Schroder, there was no contract extension offered to him and things just soured between him and Lakers management.

“The Lakers told us we are not talking during the season, and at the end of the day, I never had that contract in front of me,” Schroder told reporters at Celtics media day via Boston.com. “That’s one thing. But they wanted to talk and at the end of the day, me and my agent decided not to sign their contract.”

Schroder’s claims may shed light on what happened between him and the Lakers.

Most know that things did not exactly pan out well, and the 28-year-old was subject to heavy criticism while he was still with Los Angeles.

It took a while for Schroder to find a new home. He was among the last big names that found a new home.

Regardless, Schroder stressed he holds no ill feelings against the Lakers. Right now, he is just thankful that he is still playing in the NBA.

Settling for a one-year deal with the Celtics, Schroder finds himself back to square one. According to ESPN, the German guard agreed to a $5.9 million mid-level exception.

If things go well, the 6-foot-3 guard could earn more than that. It all depends on how well he performs for the 2021-22 NBA season.
