KEY POINTS

  • Mitchell is still sore with Gobert
  • Signs of cooling down not progressing
  • Jazz could end up dealing one player after this season

Rudy Gobert and Donovan Mitchell are at odds and some claim that it is unsalvageable. Mitchell is still reportedly sore at Gobert for not taking the COVID-19 pandemic, particularly when he jokingly touched some microphones and recorders of reporters during a press conference. Gobert has apologized for his actions but it appears his carelessness has not eased the friction with Mitchell.

According to The Athletic, Mitchell remains reluctant to bury the hatchet with Gobert. Before both players testing positive for the coronavirus, both were pretty tight and had been spending a lot of time together before the COVID-19 pandemic started to mount. Both have since been cleared of the virus but it seems mending their relationship will take a whole lot more to fix.

Aside from apologizing, Gobert did his part in trying to aid in the fight against COVID-19. He donated more than $500,000 to support employees and social services over in Utah. Aside from those, the event aided the French health care system according to the Utah Jazz.

Another Jazz player, Joe Ingles tried to calm the growing rift between Mitchell and Gobert on social media. Ingles was pretty cheerful on his answers but mentioned he was not sore at the Jazz center. Rather, he responded he was pissed because he could not visit Gobert who had a great chef.

Now may not be the right time to push for a reconciliation between the two cagers. The world is grounded by the COVID-19 and the number of casualties and deaths has not been comforting. For now, most are advised to stay at home and practice social distancing. With the issue between Gobert and Mitchell believed to be still burning hot, some time off could help cool them off.

If not, the Jazz could be facing a big dilemma. Though there is no definite word yet on the fate of the current NBA season, Utah may be forced to make a move before the next one. Both stars have not been embroiled in NBA trade talk but this revelation is bound to change all that in the coming months. If so, who would the Jazz rather keep?
