  • The LA Lakers are currently one of the favorites to win this year's NBA title
  • The Golden State Warriors are at the bottom of the current team standings
  • After a year of extended rest, the Warriors will pose as a threat for powerhouse teams such as the Lakers

The LA Lakers are one of the favorites to win the NBA title in the current season. While the games are still on hold, the outcome of the Lakers’ title hopes might change with the coming upcoming years ahead.

One of the biggest stories of the year was how the dominant Golden State Warriors immediately fell to the bottom of the league. The five-time reigning Western Conference champions were suddenly struggling to string up victories on the team standings. The current team is a far cry from the squad that racked up three championships in a five-year stretch.

This has a lot to do with a rampant roster change with veterans Andre Iguodala and Shaun Livingston leaving the team. Superstar Kevin Durant also decided to move on to the Brooklyn Nets that completely changed the dynamic of the team. To make matters worse, the star backcourt duo of Steph Curry and Klay Thompson was hindered by injuries.

The hindered Warriors gave the opportunity for Western conference powerhouses to pounce and take control of the rankings. The LA teams of the Lakers and Clippers immediately rose to the top as the Bay Area squad took a step back this season. With the Lakers dominating care of LeBron James and Anthony Davis, the Purple and Gold were in a position to take it all this year.

While there is no final decision yet on the outcome of the current season, the Lakers are hoping to resume play and come out with a championship. This is because the succeeding years will be tough considering the Warriors have had one year off.

After five consecutive years of playing the entire playoffs, the Warriors were in dire need of rest. Considering the extended time the global pandemic has brought, this gives the splash brothers the opportunity to charge up even further. Couple this with the fact that they have assets such as an incoming lottery pick and a newly acquired Andrew Wiggins.

The Warriors are ready to make the most out of the season delay and pose a threat to the Lakers once everything has all been normalized.
