NBA Rumors: Golden State Warriors May See Potential In Iowa State Prospect
KEY POINTS
- The Golden State Warriors are looking at the NBA draft to select a formidable prospect for their future
- The Bay Area team are currently at the bottom of the league's standings
- Iowa State's Tyrese Haliburton is a possible option for the Warriors
The Golden State Warriors have fallen as the dominant team of the decade to a lottery selection in the upcoming draft. Amidst the talk of selecting Anthony Edwards and LaMelo Ball, Iowa State prospect Tyrese Haliburton has also emerged as a possible choice for the Bay Area team.
It has been a unique campaign for the Warriors in the past year. A series of injuries and roster changes have brought the franchise in the unique predicament as the favorites to win a top-five pick in the draft.
The 2019-2020 season features a completely new look for the Warriors as their current roster has a different set of players from their championship days. The Splash Brothers weren’t around and veteran players such as Andre Iguodala and Shaun Livingston have parted ways.
With everything that has happened to the Warriors, they still remain as a team to watch as they’re looking to boost their lineup even more through the draft.
Speculation has revolved around several players such as Edwards and Ball as the best choices for the Warriors. Other experts on the other hand have rumored James Wiseman, Onyenka Okongwu, Obbi Toppin, or even Killian Hayes as better fits.
While these top prospects appear to be a good addition to the team, Haliburton has found himself included in the Warriors rumor mill. The all-around player drew comparisons to Lonzo Ball or a healthy Dante Exum as a guard who can find his teammates well with an excellent vision on the floor.
The mobility of Haliburton coupled with a quick first step may be what the Warriors need as they bounce back in the succeeding seasons. Couple his raw talent with the experience he will receive with the Klay Thompson and Steph Curry can mean tremendous growth for the 20-year-old.
During his latest stint with the Iowa State Cyclones, Haliburton notched 15.2 points, 5.9 rebounds and 6.5 assists on 50.4% shooting from the field.
While plans are not certain for the Warriors’ front office, it would be interesting to see how Golden State approaches the upcoming draft with an abundance of young and promising prospects.
