The Miami Heat are expected to overhaul their roster, but there are precedents for some players that need to happen. This is with reference to the future of Goran Dragic and Hassan Whiteside, two NBA stars expected to opt in next season though they are not sure about remaining in South Beach.

The potential scenario involving Dragic and Whiteside were covered in detail in a previous article. Looking at the contract of both players, critics feel that Pat Riley and Erik Spoelstra may have their work cut out for them since both come with enormous paychecks. Dragic is set to make $19 million, while Whiteside will be owed $27 million. From those figures alone, there is a possibility that the Heat may be hardpressed to find takers for both stars.

A trade move by the Miami Heat may have to wait since there are two key events that will come first. There is the 2019 NBA Draft and the much-awaited NBA free agency where a lot of top names are expected to be given ridiculous deals to change zip codes. The Heat own the rights to the 13th overall pick of the upcoming draft, and pundits feel that Miami may consider Romeo Langford.

Other teams are likely to do the same and see first who they can get from the NBA Draft. Once that and the free agent signings are done, trades are expected to take center stage. According to Heat Nation, Miami could end up revisiting a trade last February involving Ricky Rubio and Jae Crowder. The Utah Jazz almost dealt both players for Dragic but it failed to materialize.

Rubio has scoured the NBA headlines as of late following reports that the Jazz are not prioritizing the Spanish guard. The 28-year-old pass-first guard has been linked to several teams as of late, such as the Phoenix Suns, Chicago Bulls and Indiana Pacers, Hoops Hype reported.

From here, it all depends on the numbers crunch the Heat plan to do as they try to reshuffle their roster after the last season's crew failed to meet expectations. Aside from Dragic and Whiteside, the futures of Dion Waiters and James Johnson are also hanging as the Heat try to find ways in ridding themselves of the $75 million investment on the four cagers and direct them to new faces that can help turn things around for the South Beach squad.
