  • Victor Oladipo ends another NBA season on a painful note
  • Miami Heat coach will have to turn to old hands in the upcoming playoffs
  • Oladipo is unlikely to get plenty of suitors this offseason

One of the big-name acquisitions at the NBA trade deadline will end his current campaign on a sour note.

Victor Oladipo will reportedly undergo season-ending surgery, capping a rocky season that was cut short by an injury.

The Miami Heat announced on Twitter that Oladipo will have an operation on his right quadriceps tendon, meaning the South Beach squad will have to finish their campaign without the All-Star guard.

The 29-year-old has missed 17 games for the Heat since suffering the injury in a game against the Los Angeles Lakers.

Oladipo sustained the injury when he went up for a dunk and landed gingerly with no players around him.

The second overall pick of the 2013 NBA Draft strutted his wares for three different teams this season, splitting his time among the Indiana Pacers, Houston Rockets and the Heat.

Oladipo played in 33 games, ending the season with averages of 19.8 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 4.6 assists.

Despite this development, pundits feel the Heat should do just fine come the NBA playoffs.

Although their run pales when compared to that of the 2019-20 season, the core of the team is practically intact.

Jimmy Butler continues to lead the way alongside rising star Bam Adebayo.

The backcourt remains the same with the familiar faces at the disposal of head coach Erik Spoelstra. That list includes Kendrick Nunn, Tyler Herro, Goran Dragic and Duncan Robinson.

Without Oladipo, Miami managed to rack up an 11-6 record on their own.

As far as next season, Oladipo will be an interesting player to monitor. His contract will expire at the end of the season.

Other NBA teams may consider him, but the season-ending surgery seems to change the trajectory.

The Heat could re-sign the veteran NBA guard although questions remain on whether it will be a long or short-term deal.
