Part of the seven-man blockbuster NBA trade that went down recently is Wes Matthews, who now finds himself with the New York Knicks. The main figure here was actually Kristaps Porzingis who is now a Dallas Maverick.

Matthews was dealt alongside DeAndre Jordan and Dennis Smith Jr. by the Knicks. Of the three, the word going around is that Matthews and Jordan could end up being bought out, meaning Gotham may only be a temporary stop.

While Jordan has yet to be linked to any NBA team, the case is different for Matthews. The Houston Rockets are reportedly interested in getting him into their fold should a buyout happen as speculated, according to Tim McMahon of ESPN.

Interest in Matthews would make sense for the Rockets since they have yet to address their 3-and-D hole. The 32-year-old could be what head coach Mike D'Antoni is looking for. The native of San Antonio, Texas is in the final year of his four-year $18.6 million deal and is someone who may not blend in with the Knicks and their future plans, the Bleacher Report noted.

Though he has had an erratic 2018-19 NBA season, Matthews can still be of some help to teams beefing up for the postseason wars. He averages 13.1 points and 38 percent from the three-point region and has proven he can defend anyone when tasked to do so.

Matthews could be another option on offense, relieving James Harden of some scoring duties. The former Marquette Golden Eagle could be a threat from the wing and finally put an end to the Rockets' void.

But the Rockets are not the only one interested in getting Matthews. The Golden State Warriors have also expressed interest in the NBA veteran and are waiting to see what the Knicks plan to do with him, according to the Bleacher Report.

Playing time is suspect, although joining Dub City could give Matthews a chance to finally win an NBA ring. It is a rare opportunity, but he may not see proper playing time given that head coach Steve Kerr is likely to use him primarily as a reliever.

In the event he chooses to suit up in the Bay Area, Matthews is likely to take the place of Patrick McCaw, adding more depth to an already stellar Golden State Warriors roster.
