NBA Rumors: Klay Thompson Suffers New Injury; Warriors May Look For New Guard
KEY POINTS
- Warriors may not have Klay Thompson again for the 2020-21 season
- The severity of Thompson leg injury remains to be unknown
- Dubs may have to look for a new player in free agency
The Golden State Warriors could be a man short this 2020-21 NBA season with reports that Klay Thompson suffered a leg injury.
The severity of his injury has yet to be known with the Dubs waiting on the results of MRI tests on Thursday, according to Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports.
Thompson suffered the injury during a workout in Southern California, NBA.com reported. The worst-case scenario that the Warriors fear is an Achilles tear.
Hence, Thompson could find himself sitting yet another entire NBA season at the least of the injury proves serious.
The three-time NBA champion already missed the entire 2019-20 NBA season, and the same predicament looms if his most recent injury turns out to be bad.
If it requires him to go under the knife, the Dubs will have to find ways to adjust with Thompson most likely unavailable this coming season.
With Thompson being unable to suit up for the Warriors, head coach Steve Kerr may need to explore other options.
The Dubs selected James Wiseman at the 2020 NBA Draft. Before the Thompson injury, the Warriors were contemplating on Anthony Edwards or LaMelo Ball as their pick. But they opted to take in the 7-foot-1 center to address their lack of big men.
Wiseman was asked about Thompson's predicament after he was drafted. Here is what he had to say.
"As soon as I seen [the news], it was kind of down for me, like emotionally. But the team, we got his back no matter what and he's going to be in great recovery...all prayers be to Klay, my teammate, and he's going to be just fine," Wiseman said as tweeted by NBA reporter Nick Friedell.
Most are hoping that it just be minor, providing a small glimmer of hope that the Warriors’ hotshot can return this 2020-21 NBA season.
