NBA Rumors: Knicks Coach Leaving Door Open For Reunion With T-Wolves All-Star Center

The New York Knicks have turned things around this 2020-21 NBA season.

From a struggling rag-tag team, the Knickerbockers are now a squad to reckon with although first-year head coach Tom Thibodeau is far from content.

Thibodeau has masterfully steered the Knicks to better days with several players stepping up. That includes Julius Randle who has blossomed into one of the best players the NBA has to date.

Randle's efforts for the Knicks rewarded him with his first NBA All-Star appearance, the New York Times reported.

However, it remains that Randle needs help. New York could use a push in some positions, particularly the guard and center position.

Derrick Rose was taken in and the former NBA MVP has answered the call, making a good account of his second stint with the Knicks.

One name that comes to mind is Karl-Anthony Towns. So far, there has been no indication that the Minnesota Timberwolves are open to dealing away the 6-foot-11 center.

Also, the Knicks would pay direly to get him to their end. Towns is only in the second year of his $158 million five-year deal with Minnesota and is still owed roughly more than $100 million after this season.

Anything is possible with the NBA trade deadline set for Mar. 25. Although the T-Wolves continue to struggle this season, the potential reunion between Thibodeau and Towns is deemed a long-shot for now.

However, things are subject to change. If not by Mar. 25, things could change in the offseason.

Hence, all Thibodeau can do right now is to wait patiently Stefan Bondy of the New York Daily News claimed. Adding Towns would further boost the stock of the Knicks moving forward. But right now, New York just has to deal with what they have and appear to be doing great.

Currently ranked fourth in the NBA Eastern Conference, the Knicks know that things will be different once the NBA playoffs start.

There remains no clarity on what place they would end up and who they will face. From their spot down to the 10th team, their current win-loss records are pretty close.

Hence, it may be in the best interest of the Knicks to focus on their upcoming games and win as much as they can.

One loss could be detrimental and affect their position. Infusing new players would help but should not be something that would hinder their remarkable 2020-21 season performance.
