KEY POINTS

  • Chris Paul returning to the LA Clippers is one of the ideas going around the trade news
  • Chris Paul is producing consistent numbers for his current team, the Oklahoma City Thunder
  • The OKC Thunder are at 28-20 in the Western Conference

Rumors and speculation have gained momentum with the trade deadline drawing nearer. With the final date set on February 6, 2020, teams have begun their chase in grabbing their best roster.

As reported by Bleacher Report, there are ideas floating around the league that could shake up some teams in the playoff contention. One suggestion is to have Chris Paul back in his former team, the Los Angeles Clippers.

It was Chris Paul’s stint with the LA Clippers that sparked the famed lob city. The trio of Chris Paul, Blake Griffin and Deandre Jordan disrupted the league with their dominance above the rim. Exciting lobs that were caught with rim-rattling dunks hyped the LA Clippers as one of the teams to beat in their era.

This was also the time where Chris Paul dominated on both ends of the floor. His best year as an LA Clipper was in the 2013-2014 season where he averaged 19.1 points and led the league in assists and steals with 10.7 and 2.5 respectively.

Unfortunately, injuries, internal disagreement and mismatches served to be their downfall and led to an eventual rebuild. The days of Lob City may be done but the faces of the franchise are as strong as ever. The most versatile two-way players in the league Kawhi Leonard and Paul George take the realm for the LA Clippers.

With Chris Paul still performing at an All-Star level in Oklahoma City, the LA Clippers can consider getting the four-time All-NBA first-team player. Chris Paul’s presence in the new LA Clippers team can provide an additional boost in the point guard slot. It will be a major help for the LA Clippers with a new floor general facilitating the assists for the team.

Chris Paul signed a four-year deal with the Houston Rockets in 2018 worth $159.7 million. He is currently being paid $38.5 million this year and is due $41.4 million next year and $44.2 million in the succeeding year. He’s averaging at a productive rate with the Oklahoma City Thunder with 17.2 points, 6.4 assists and 5 rebounds per game. The Oklahoma City Thunder is at seventh place in the Western Conference with a 28-20 record.
