  • The Lakers are open to trading Danny Green for the right package, a report says
  • Green's trade could make room for the Lakers to get another NBA star
  • Chris Paul is a target of the Lakers, but CP3 is said to be not interested

Danny Green has been the target of several NBA teams this offseason and the Los Angeles Lakers are listening, a report says. There is no doubt that the two-time NBA champion has proven he is an asset, showing much of that in the Lakers 2019-20 run.

Green is in the final year of his two-year, $30 million deal with the Lakers. He is set to make $15 million for the coming season, an amount that multiple NBA teams can afford. The name of the clubs interested in the 33-year-old has yet to be known. However, the Lakers are ready to talk to teams interested in the 6-foot-6 guard, Ian Begley of SNY.tv reported.

If one looks at the numbers of Green last season, they are far from impressive. He played in 68 regular season games, norming 8 points, 3.3 rebounds and 1.3 assists, per Basketball-Reference. Those numbers hardly improved in the playoffs, raising questions regarding whether other teams would be willing to spend heftily on Green moving forward.

To his credit, Green does other things not seen on the stat sheet. He has proven himself as a good defender and helps out in any which way he can. Considering that attention has been on LeBron James and Anthony Davis, Green is not expected to score much.

The Lakers do need personnel and such could be the thing that the purple and gold are looking into. It all depends on the offers on the table.

Los Angeles does not have the flexibility, with most of its salary budget invested in James and Davis. Among the positions they need to fill are the big man slot and the point guard position. Several names have been mentioned, but the issue of cost is on the table.

One player who has been associated with the Lakers is Chris Paul. With no certainty regarding Rajon Rondo for next season, Los Angeles needs to find a playmaker. Avery Bradley could return, but it remains that the Lakers need to take in another man for their backcourt.

The problem with getting Paul is that the Lakers would have to find a way to cover his salary. The 10-time All-Star is owed $85 million in the next two years, numbers that won’t match unless the Lakers unload some of their current players. Green could be part of that, but the Lakers need to give up more if they want CP3 on board.

However, the latest report from ESPN said that Paul is not interested in joining the Lakers. There was no official reason as to why, but Stephen A. Smith bats that it is because Los Angeles is already established.
