NBA Rumors: Lakers Will Try To Exhaust All Options For Fourth Overall Pick

Lady Luck finally smiled on the Los Angeles Lakers for next season when the purple and gold surprisingly got hold of the fourth overall pick of the 2019 NBA Draft. The Lakers were never really mentioned as a team who would get a decent pick, especially in the top 5, but the recent NBA Lottery may have altered the course.

For the Lakers, there are plenty of options. Seeing as how they have been able to select good talent the past years, it may be time to rethink that approach. With Zion Williamson, R.J. Barrett and Ja Morant likely to be out when the first three make their selection, it may be unwise for the Lakers to gamble on another freshman if they want to turn the franchise's hopes around.

As mentioned in a previous article, the Lakers' fourth overall pick could be included in a bundle should they pursue a trade for Anthony Davis. Other players could be included plus more if the Pelicans are willing to listen. But what if that idea goes for naught once more? What should the Lakers do?

There are different kinds of scenarios for the Lakers. If not the Pelicans, they could try and negotiate a trade with the Memphis Grizzlies or the New York Knicks. That would move Los Angeles inside the big three and hope they can land one of the three top talents for next season. From the three names, it could boil down between Barrett and Morant.

If adding another neophyte does not sit well with the Lakers, trading down is also an option. In this scenario, the Lakers could target some forgotten NBA cager and add that to the mix and also get a rookie worth developing, the Silver Screen and Roll reported.

The last and seemingly plausible scenario would be to see the Lakers package that fourth pick with some player on their end and target someone from other teams who may not be hitting the free agent market this summer. They need either a veteran guard, wingman or a center, someone who can immediately create an impact and blend in well with James.

Several teams are bent on getting younger, meaning the Lakers could be getting offers right now. It all depends on what new head coach Frank Vogel and general manager Rob Pelinka have discussed. The Lakers have had their share of youth, meaning it may be time to reel in a veteran tested NBA cager to the fold.
