NBA Rumors: LeBron James Not Discounting Possibility Of Seeing Gasol Brothers Play For Lakers
KEY POINTS
- LeBron James is not closing the door to a potential Pau Gasol return
- James knows life will be easier with Marc Gasol beside him
- The Lakers have two open spots but need to add player who can last the full season
LeBron James admits that life for him and Anthony Davis will be a whole lot easier with the addition of Marc Gasol.
As far as possibly adding his older brother Pau, James welcomes the idea though it may not be in his hands.
The Los Angeles Lakers have gotten fiercer with their recruits for the 2020-21 NBA season. Aside from Marc, the purple and gold also added Dennis Schroder, Montrezl Harrell and Wesley Matthews.
Curiously, James was the same guy who did not agree with Marc winning the 2013 NBA Defensive Player of the Year award. He questioned the way voting was done, but all that is now a thing of the past.
"Marc has my Defensive Player of the Year trophy at his house," James said in jest when he spoke on the Spectrum Sports Net's Road Trippin' podcast.
Now, James claims he always loved Marc and believes that his addition provides the Lakers a big boost in making it back-to-back NBA title wins.
Aside from his ability to defend and space the floor, the 35-year-old can also shoot from the outside, giving head coach Frank Vogel new options each game.
There is no doubt that the Lakers caught a big fish in Marc. However, another Gasol is waiting in the wings and James is delighted at the possibility of seeing him on the Lakers bench.
Pau hinted that he would love to play one last season with the Lakers if the opportunity permits. Los Angeles does have two open roster spots but needs to make sure they sign a player they can count on.
When asked about the idea of playing alongside Marc and Pau, James seemed to be a bit tight-lipped about it and answered with a short and simple “we’ll see.”
The Gasol brothers have never played on the same NBA team since entering the league. It would be a fitting send-off to Pau who aided Kobe Bryant in two NBA title runs.
Will the Lakers give in to that nostalgic return and farewell?
