NBA Rumors: Los Angeles Lakers To Bolster Bench By Acquiring Derrick Rose Before Deadline
KEY POINTS
- Derrick Rose and LeBron James could reunite in LA
- Rose would provide bench scoring to the Lakers
- Rose is an upgrade to Rajon Rondo as back-up PG
The Los Angeles Lakers might explore the possibility of adding another MVP to their lineup as they look to drop the hammer in the second half of the regular season.
The latest trade forecast ahead of the Feb. 6 deadline sees the Lakers plotting a deal to acquire Derrick Rose from the Detroit Pistons - an attempt to further boost the supporting cast that could be pivotal in their Playoff run.
A shake-up in roster before the scheduled due date set by the NBA has become a norm for any LeBron James-led team to say the least, and Greg Swartz of Bleacher Report is confident that it will happen again this year.
“LeBron James-led teams have traditionally made moves at the trade deadline, and this year will be no exception,” Swartz said as he anticipates a smooth transition should Rose accept the invitation to run it back with James. “Rose should welcome the move to Southern California and a second chance to be James' teammate.”
This year has become a rejuvenation for the 2011 MVP as he has piloted the Pistons’ bench production with 17.8 points and 5.8 assists in 25.4 minutes per game. At 31, Rose continues to evolve his game as he has thrived by getting his teammates more involved en route to notching a career-best 41.9 assist percentage.
James has been the Lakers’ main man at the point with Rajon Rondo providing the relief off the bench. Rose is a proven torrid scorer – the kind of player that could answer to LA’s offensive needs whenever James takes a breather on the bench.
“Rose gives the Lakers an upgrade over Rajon Rondo and allows James to spend more time off the ball should he need to rest for the playoffs,” Swartz continued. “In a loaded West that could see deep runs by the Lakers, Los Angeles Clippers, Denver Nuggets, Jazz, Houston Rockets or Dallas Mavericks, getting a player like Rose may help separate the Lakers from the pack.”
