KEY POINTS
- The LA Lakers are one of the favorites to win this year's NBA championship
- One criticism the Lakers constantly receive is their lack of a third scoring option
- It has been rumored that Victor Oladipo can be a possible player to trade for in the near future
The Los Angeles Lakers have emerged as one of the favorites to win this year’s NBA championship. While the season continues to be on hold, one rumor that could change the league's landscape future involves the Lakers trading for Indiana Pacers star Victor Oladipo.
While the NBA is preparing to resume the season due to the unprecedented events of a global pandemic, speculation has already risen for what the Lakers in years to come. While the Lakers are still one of the predicted finalists for this year’s championship, there is still much room to improve their roster to continue their dominance.
The addition of star big man Anthony Davis has made all the difference this year. The duo of Davis and LeBron is considered as one of the more dominant figures in the league.
For LeBron, he is cooking up another MVP caliber season with averages of 25.7 points, 7.9 rebounds and 10.6 assists per outing. This is coupled with Davis’ 26.7 points and 9.4 boards a night.
While these two dominate the court on a nightly basis, one criticism the Lakers would constantly receive is their lack of depth. Their third-highest scorer is Kyle Kuzma who is averaging 12.5 points a game. Although Kuzma has shown flashes of brilliance throughout his career, the Lakers are said to lack the firepower when they enter deep into the playoffs.
Per Fadeaway World, one solution to the Lakers’ issue is trading for Pacers guard Oladipo. The possible deal can include shipping Kuzma, Danny Green and crowd favorite Alex Caruso, a future first-round pick for the services of Oladipo.
This gives Indiana multiple assets to build around and develop for the future. In return, the Lakers have a proven star and a third scoring option for the duo of LeBron and Davis.
The former number two overall pick Oladipo saw success in his earlier years with the Orlando Magic and Oklahoma City Thunder. But it was in his stint with the Pacers that saw him emerge as a star. The six-foot-four sharpshooter rose as a two-time NBA All-Star and a winner of the Most Improved Player award.
It will be interesting to see if the Lakers can pull off this deal and have a versatile shooting guard like Oladipo in their quest for more championships.
