KEY POINTS

  • The Los Angeles Lakers are one of the teams looking to win this year's NBA championship
  • One point of criticism has constantly received this year is their lack of depth in the roster
  • Trading for someone like Dennis Schroder is speculated as a good fit for the Lakers

While the Los Angeles Lakers are still one of the favorites to win this year’s title, the front office will not stop looking for more ways to improve the team. One player that is speculated to be a fit for the Lakers is Oklahoma City Thunder guard Dennis Schroder.

The weight the guard position of the Lakers carries this year has become heavier with Avery Bradley not playing in the modified season. To add to these, veteran point guard Rajon Rondo was injured for the majority of their campaign. This was among the several criticisms of this year’s Lakers squad as it was said the team lacked depth in their second unit. The injured Rondo was still the second leading facilitator of the team with five assists an outing.

Per Lake Show Life, Schroder is one speculated guard that the Lakers can trade for. With assets such as a 2020 first-round pick and sharpshooter Danny Green, Los Angeles can make a deal to secure the starting guard. The 26-year-old player has had a steady career and is currently a consistent contributor for the Oklahoma City Thunder. Having someone like Schroder who averages 19 points and 4.1 assists per game is a welcome addition to the Lakers.

The Lakers remain as one of the predicted finalists for this year’s championship with how the addition of All-Star big man Anthony Davis has made all the difference this season. The duo of Davis and LeBron James is considered one of the more dominant combinations in the league and having someone to add the offense will be a welcome addition.

For LeBron, he is cooking up another MVP caliber season with averages of 25.7 points, 7.9 rebounds and 10.6 assists per outing. This is coupled with Davis’ 26.7 points and 9.4 boards a night. It’s vital that these star players get the support needed in succeeding seasons if they want to continue their dominant status.

The Lakers can use someone like Schroder who posses an explosive first step and an improving jumper from beyond the arc. This year he has been tallying 38.1% from downtown. Moving from a sixth man slot behind Chris Paul and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander to a possible main guard post for the Lakers is a welcome change of environment for Schroder.

The Lakers are looking to win it all in the current season and they’re hoping to develop their team moving forward to strengthen their chances in succeeding years.
