NBA Rumors: Markieff Morris Could Reunite With Twin Brother Marcus At Clippers
KEY POINTS
- Markieff Morris may consider a move to the Los Angeles Clippers
- Morris twins could be the only siblings to win an NBA title with the same team
- Morris' future with the Lakers is up in the air following Marc Gasol's signing
Brother acts are rare in the NBA, and seeing twin brothers play for one team is pretty much a rare occurrence.
Marcus and Markieff Morris had that chance when they played side-by-side with the Phoenix Suns from 2013 to 2016.
However, the Suns broke the duo up come the 2014-15 season. Phoenix wanted to pursue LaMarcus Aldridge. This meant they had to clear some cap space, resulting in Marcus getting traded to the Detroit Pistons together with Reggie Bullock and Danny Granger, NBA.com reported.
There is now a possibility the two could reunite with the Los Angeles Clippers.
Marcus agreed to a huge $64 million deal with the Clippers coming off a good season, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reported.
But with Montrezl Harrell leaving the Clippers to join the Los Angeles Lakers, first-year head coach Tyronn Lue needs to plug in some missing pieces upfront.
Though Markieff is keen on returning to the Lakers’ fold, the acquisition of Marc Gasol could put his place in jeopardy.
A slight chance opened when the purple and gold traded JaVale McGee to the Cleveland Cavaliers. This means the slightly older Markieff could be re-signed by the Lakers soon. Until that happens, anything is possible.
The Morris twins have gone on individual paths. Markieff went on to play for four different teams. After the Suns, he suited up for the Washington Wizards, Oklahoma City Thunder, Pistons, and the Lakers.
On the other hand, Marcus played for three other NBA teams after the Pistons. This included spells with the Boston Celtics, New York Knicks, and the Clippers.
Though he settled for a supporting role with the Lakers, Markieff is officially an NBA champion. As for Marcus, the farthest he was able to get was the Eastern Conference Finals with the Celtics during the 2017-18 season.
Hence, could a team-up with the Clippers raise the chances of the franchise this 2020-21 season? That is a possibility although the Lakers have added key addition to their roster thus far.
Markieff could be left to decide in the coming days. Will it be another NBA title or a chance to play alongside his brother and grind to win another NBA crown but with a different team?
Also worth factoring in are NBA record book implications. If Markieff opts to join his brother Marcus with the Clippers, they could become a rare duo to play side-by-side and win an NBA title.
Thus it may not be just about the Gasol brothers making history books as the only siblings to win an NBA title with the same franchise but in different seasons.
The Morris twins could also etch their names in history by becoming the first brothers playing for the same team to win an NBA crown.
