The Dallas Mavericks' general manager believes his team got a good deal in their recent trade with the Washington Wizards.

The Mavs parted ways with Kristaps Porzingis and a protected second-round pick in exchange for Spencer Dinwiddie and Davis Bertans from the Wizards.

The NBA trade was huge, but something that was expected to eventually happen. However, some have questioned whether the Mavericks got the right pieces for the Latvian center.

Addressing the criticism, Mavs general manager Nico Harrison justified the deal, saying he believes Dallas was able to fill critical holes in the team following the trade, Sports Illustrated reported.

“I think the biggest thing is we were able to turn KP into two players that give us depth. And so I think for us, that was the biggest thing that we could take away from is like we a chance to turn one player into two and kind of fill some holes that we needed. So that’s the reason why we did it,” Harrison stated.

Concurring with Harrison is former NBA player and current Basketball League president David Magley when he appeared on the "Sports Bytes PH" podcast hosted by journalist Brian Yalung on Feb. 13.

The 62-year-old said he believes that Dinwiddie and Bertans are a good fit since the two players don’t need to be ball-dominant to be happy.

“They don’t need to be happy, but they are very skilled when they get it. Especially Dinwiddie, he is a smart kid. He can catch and shoot, he can put in the floor. He is not going to have a problem playing with (Bradley) Beal who likes to have the ball a little bit,” Magley explained.

“Sometimes, if you are in the middle of the pack, you just got to freshen things up,” he added.

As for Porzingis, his stint in Washington will depend on whether he stays healthy and performs. Although he has shown talent and efficiency when he is on the floor, missing a lot of games in a season will hardly help the Wizards, or any other team, reach their goals of a respectable finish.
