KEY POINTS

  • Dallas Mavericks are not expected to make a go for Andre Iguodala
  • Memphis continues to wait on offers for Iguodala
  • Clippers, Lakers and Rockets remain favorites to land the three-time NBA champion

The Memphis Grizzlies are convinced that they can still get something out of Andre Iguodala via trade. With most teams expected to make changes and insert key pieces, Memphis is trying to avoid a buyout and end up empty. However, the latest NBA team to be crossed out of the Iguodala sweepstakes are reportedly the Dallas Mavericks.

In a previous report, it was discussed how the Mavs could make a go at the 35-year-old veteran. But it appears that this scenario is now a dead issue. Marc Stein of the New York Times learned from league sources that the Mavericks are not actively pursuing a trade for Iguodala. And from the looks of it, they have no intention of doing so.

The Mavs do have assets that would interest the Grizzlies. They own a couple of second-round picks, one from Iggy's old team - the Golden State Warriors. Courtney Lee would have been an addition, allowing Dallas to rid themselves of the NBA vets expiring contract. Had it gone down, the Grizzlies could eventually waive the 34-year-old guard.

With this new update, the Grizzlies may have to play the waiting game with Iguodala until February at the least. The belief is that Memphis will eventually buy him out - a scenario in which three teams are closely monitoring. The Los Angeles Clippers, Los Angeles Lakers and Houston Rockets are among the ballclubs linked to the three-time NBA champion as they ramp up their rosters for the NBA playoffs.

Even at his age, there is no doubt that Iguodala could be a big boost to any team planning to go deep in this year's NBA playoffs. He is an asset on offense and has been known to employ great defense on star players of opposing teams.

The Clippers and Rockets could benefit immensely from Iguodala considering he knows how to check LeBron James. Conversely, the Lakers could turn the tables and get him on board to beef up their defensive end.

Whichever team gets Iguodala will also need to consider that the veteran may be a short-term lease. He has gotten almost everything any NBA player could yearn for. Right now, it seems he just wants to end his career with a bang.
