NBA Rumors: Miami Heat Plot Ambitious Plan To Recruit Knicks Big Man
KEY POINTS
- The Miami Heat are the latest team to be linked to Mitchell Robinson
- Robinson is likely to play behind resident Heat center Bam Adebayo
- The Detroit Pistons are also believed to be in the chase to acquire Robinson
The Miami Heat are not expected to slow down in skimming the free-agent market for added pieces to their NBA campaign.
For now, it appears the Heat have figured out things on their end. Proof of that is the fact that the South Beach squad is lording it over the Eastern Conference alongside the Chicago Bulls with similar 38-21 win-loss records.
Regardless of how their 2021-22 campaign goes, the Heat are expected to target players in the summer to bolster their roster.
According to Heavy.com, one player on Heat President Pat Riley’s radar is reportedly Mitchell Robinson of the New York Knicks.
In the report of Sean Deveney, the Heat are allegedly expected to keep close tabs of Robinsons’ situation in the offseason.
The 23-year-old player is set to become an unrestricted free agent after the 2021-22 season.
The report pointed out how the Heat plan to use their full mid-level next year which could result in seeing a daunting backcourt for head coach Erik Spoelstra with Robinson and Bam Adebayo.
However, the likely scenario would be to see Robinson acting as the chief reliever of Adebayo.
Seeing both playing together holds low promise, especially considering both centers do not shoot the three-ball well.
Then again, having Robinson would make sure that the Heat do not have to worry about a gaping hole in the middle.
Adebayo has had his share of injuries, leaving Miami without a reliable man in the middle.
However, all these plans will depend on whether the Knicks are open to the idea of allowing the 7-foot Robinson to leave.
Even if the Heat fall short of fulfilling those plans, there are several other teams interested in the Florida native.
According to Ian Begley of SNY, there are multiple teams equally interested in Robinson. One team singled out is the Detroit Pistons, a team that is rebuilding at the moment.
Detroit is looking for ideal pieces to support Cade Cunningham, one of which is getting a legitimate and reliable big man.
Aside from the Heat and Pistons, more teams are expected to enter the fray.
But above all, any move will still depend if the Knicks are ready to move on from Robinson.
