KEY POINTS
- The New York Knicks have gained interest in junior college star Jay Scrubb
- They are among the multiple teams who have gotten in touch with the six-foot-six shooting guard
- Scrubb is coming out of the junior college program of the John A. Logan College program
It has been another turbulent season for the New York Knicks as they’ve fallen near the bottom of the standings once again. They’ve struggled to find a consistent star player to elevate the squad to the next level. Despite the multitude of high-potential talent, one route they’ve decided to take is looking into star prospect Jay Scrubb.
While the more prominent talents such as LaMelo Ball has had a taste of international competition, Scrubb is taking a more non-conventional route. The six-foot-six shooting guard is declared as the number one junior college recruit in the draft coming out of the John A. Logan College program. Per The Daily Knicks, the organization has reached out to Srubb for an interview. They are one of the 22 teams interested in the talented prospect.
The left-handed wingman is capable of scoring from anywhere on the floor. With a combination of pull-up jumpers and an aggressive mentality, Scrubb has the ability to take over a game offensively. Considering the manner of how strong he takes the ball inside the paint, defenses will find it hard to stop the 220-pound athlete.
The Knicks could use a rejuvenated roster given how they’ve struggled in the past few seasons. While they have multiple talented players on their team, their depth hasn’t translated much into victories. There were recent reports that rising stars Kevin Knox could be placed on the trading block given how he hasn’t lived up to the expectations.
It’s been difficult for the Knicks organization as of late and having a consistent scorer may help the team in the long run. It will be too early to say if Scrubb will blossom into a star but he has shown the potential to fill up the stat sheet. During the latest season, Scrubb has tallied 20.2 points per game and 8.9 rebounds a night to go along with 54.9% shooting from the field.
The path Scrubb has taken is definitely a unique route but it still gives him a shot for the big leagues. It will be interesting to see how the Knicks organization plays its cards in this situation given how they’ve been trying to rebuild their franchise.
