NBA Rumors: NFL Star Says Brooklyn Nets Could Sign Another All-Star Big Man
KEY POINTS
- NFL wide reciever Allen Robinson II says Andre Drummond will be signing with the Brooklyn Nets
- Drummond played 25 games with the Cleveland Cavaliers this season, averaging a double-double
- Drummond could be joining a roster that already has Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving, James Harden and Blake Griffin
Just days after signing six-time NBA All-Star Blake Griffin, the Brooklyn Nets are again being discussed as a potential destination for another All-Star big man in Cleveland Cavaliers center Andre Drummond.
According to NFL wide receiver Allen Robinson II, his sources state that Drummond will be signing with the Nets.
Obviously, Robinson doesn’t have the credibility among NBA circles as the likes of ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski or Shams Charania of The Athletic--the two men who have made a reputation of breaking news around the league.
While Robinson’s so-called report should be taken with a grain of salt, he hasn’t been the only one who has spoken about Drummond potentially going to Brooklyn.
According to The Ringer’s Kevin O’Connor, the Nets--along with the Los Angeles Lakers--are frontrunners to go after the 6-foot-10 stalwart.
“If Drummond does end up hitting the buyout market, consider the Lakers and Nets as the two favorites to add him,” O’Connor wrote.
If Drummond is indeed heading to the Big Apple, he becomes the latest big-name piece in a team that has already added Griffin and James Harden to go with Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant.
In January, Harden was traded to the Nets after eight seasons with the Houston Rockets and has immediately flourished alongside Irving and Durant.
Harden is currently lording the league in assists with 11.4 per game and leading the Nets in rebounding at 7.8 per outing, all while still putting up 25.3 points per contest.
Griffin, meanwhile, signed with the Nets in March after being bought out by the Detroit Pistons. In 20 games with the Motor City this season, he has averaged just 12.3 points and 5.2 rebounds per game.
The Nets are currently second in the Eastern Conference with a 24-13 standing.
This season, Drummond has played just 25 games for the Cavaliers but has put up solid numbers, averaging 17.5 points and 13.5 rebounds per game.
His production on the glass is exactly what the Nets need, especially after parting ways with Jarett Allen in the Harden trade.
