KEY POINTS

  • Kelly Oubre Jr. is more likely to be leaving the Golden State Warriors after this season
  • Oubre feels he is too good of a player to come off the bench for the Warriors
  • Steve Kerr prefers not to comment on the revelation of former Warriors center Andrew Bogut

The Golden State Warriors were looking for new blood to help align with their system. With stars like Klay Thompson out due to injury, head coach Steve Kerr needed to turn to available NBA talent.

One of them was Kelly Oubre Jr. although there was no assurance he would be a regular starter.

Of course, the 6-foot-7 swingman had the chance to prove to the Warriors that he deserves a starter role. But if one looks at the current positioning of the Dubs, their campaign has not been exactly a good one.

With Golden State undergoing a massive revamp in the ranks, everyone has a role to play. However, it appears the 15th overall pick of the 2015 NBA Draft is not too coy as to where is positioned right now.

Oubre feels he is a certified starter although not most would agree. According to Warriors center Andrew Bogut, such has led to frustration within the team with the 25-year-old believing he is too good to be someone coming off the bench.

With that said, it appears that Oubre is more likely to hit the free-agent market and join another team.

But as far as being a starter, it remains to be seen which team would give him that chance. Most contending teams are stacked, meaning the Louisiana native may have to lower his expectations.

He could end up with a team in need of his services, but that club may either be rebuilding or trying to catch up with other powerhouse teams.

When asked about Bogut’s take on Oubre, head coach Steve Kerr opted not to comment but assured that he would look into the claim that has reportedly upset players on the Golden State side, NBC Sports reported.

"I don't have any comment on that," Kerr told reporters while chuckling on Monday. "Bogut is a media mogul now, I guess. So I'll take a look at that later but no, I got no comment on that one."

For now, Oubre will just have to perform depending on Kerr’s call. At 23-27, the Dubs still have a chance at making the NBA playoffs.

But as far as going deep, Golden State will have their work cut out for them as the rebuilding phase continues for the Dubs.
