  • Sixers revealed their trade wishlist
  • GM Elton Brand wants shooters
  • Sixers lack the assets to land a wing player

The Philadelphia 76ers are pondering on bringing back familiar names into their camp. Based on the latest NBA trade rumor mill, Philly is closely considering a trade deal that will land them erstwhile Sixers Andre Iguodala and Robert Covington.

Kevin O'Connor of the Ringer reported the said development, saying that Sixers GM Elton Brand is looking to satisfy the team’s need to boost their wing spot. With an imposing big at the middle in Joel Embiid, what the Sixers need according to Brand are more floor spacers who could either attract defenders to give Embiid enough space to operate at the post or receive kick-out passes and knock down perimeter shots.

While Iguodala is never known to be a reliable shooter, his veteran savvy, as well as his familiarity in the city, makes him a viable target for the East powerhouse team. After all, the 35-year-old spent his first eight seasons in Philly after being selected at 9th overall in 2004.

Covington, on the other hand, played for the franchise from 2014-2018 before being dealt with Minnesota as part of the Jimmy Butler deal.

Apart from Iguodala and Covington, Philly’s front office is also taking a closer look at some other wing players such as Malik Beasley (Nuggets), Glenn Robinson III (Warriors), Davis Bertans (Wizards), and E’Twaun Moore (Pelicans).

It may look promising for Brand and the Sixers, but a trade to acquire any of these players could cost them a significant piece of their roster.

“The Sixers have limited assets to include in any trade,” O’Connor said before adding that the only wing player the team is willing to give up is sophomore Zhaire Smith. “Philly probably doesn’t have enough to really move the needle without putting one of its own key players on the block.”

Tyler Conway of Bleacher Report has the same thoughts. He said that the Sixers are “unlikely to have the trade capital to bring back Covington,” while Iguodala “remains in basketball purgatory” as the Grizzlies are still shopping the vet for a taker of his $17.2 million contract.
