Ray Allen, one of the best shooters the NBA has ever seen, proved to one and all that he can still sink hoops with gusto if he wanted to. The 43-year-old retired player put that in full display when he participated in the All-Star Celebrity Game at the All-Star Weekend recently.

Allen officially called it a career back in 2016, but his shooting game is obviously something that would come in handy for teams looking for wing shooters. Before the NBA trade deadline, a lot of teams were looking for someone to fill in that position, particularly the Los Angeles Lakers and the Houston Rockets.

Speaking of the Rockets, the general manager is open to giving Allen another shot at playing pro ball. He is offering Allen a 10-day contract should he still be interested in playing in the NBA. A lot of this stems from Allen’s performance at the All-Star Celebrity Game, USA Today reported. Some highlights of his performance can be seen in the video below.

Although it seems like a long shot, there is no harm in Morey dangling an offer to the Hall of Famer. His endurance is suspect at his age, but there are a number of senior players like Vince Carter who have managed to play on.

Assuming he bites, there is no assurance that he can muster enough to at least last this NBA season. So if Allen were to somehow accept, there has to be a valid reason. So far, nothing comes close to that.

One can just look at Allen’s resume. He is a two-time NBA champion, a 10-time NBA All-Star and an Olympic gold medallist. There is little reason for him to play, even in the financial sense.

Moving forward, it would be crazy to think Allen would somehow come out of retirement to play NBA ball once more. Prior to announcing his official retirement, several teams expressed interest in his services and believed he can still keep in step with the younger NBA players of today.

It would be best to simply toy with the idea of Allen making an NBA comeback at 43. But it would really be something if Allen were to join the Rockets and play alongside the likes of James Harden and Chris Paul. Morey and head coach Mike D’Antoni would have tremendous firepower at their disposal in such a scenario.
