NBA Rumors: Rushing Jamal Murray To Return Could Be Disastrous For Nuggets
KEY POINTS
- The Nuggets need to decide on whether it will be wise to use Jamal Murray extensively this season
- Murray and Michael Porter Jr.'s return may boost the Nuggets' chances for the playoffs
- Michael Malone should consider long-term plans of the team on Murray
The Denver Nuggets have found a way to survive this season even without a couple of their top stars.
But it appears one of them, Jamal Murray, could be making a return soon.
Murray went down with a torn ACL injury in his left knee in April 2021.
Before sustaining the injury, the Canadian guard was having a great season, averaging 21.2 points, 4.8 assists, and four rebounds.
After undergoing immediate surgery, the Nuggets announced he would be out indefinitely.
Now, it appears the No. 7 overall pick of the 2015 NBA Draft is recovering well although the Nuggets would best approach it with caution.
The latest on Murray is that the Nuggets assigned him to first practice with the team’s G League affiliate team, Grand Rapids, Harrison Wind reported.
It is an important development in the sense that the Nuggets want to see first if Murray is ready to spring back to action.
Along with Michael Porter Jr., who underwent back surgery, Murray would be welcome additions for Nuggets coach Michael Malone if both are given a clean bill of health.
Without Murray and Porter, the Nuggets have found a way to keep its campaign afloat.
Hence, having both men back in harness by the time the playoffs come around would boost Denver’s chances in the postseason wars.
However, returning soon could also have its disadvantages especially as far as Murray is concerned.
In the case of the 25-year-old guard, the Nuggets need to make sure that Murray is in tip-top condition.
Coming off a major knee injury, Murray will need to recondition himself and acclimatize himself to playing competitive ball again.
Adjustments are needed on his part since the last thing he wants is to re-injure his knee or incur another one.
Hence, a rushed Murray return is not without risk.
