DeMarcus Cousins is a free agent, and the Boogie is likely to draw interest from several teams. With plenty of NBA signings already done, the temperamental big man’s team for the 2019-20 NBA season should be known soon. But if there is one potential team he may want to strike off his list, it would be his former team – the Sacramento Kings.

Without question, the Kings could use Cousins’ expertise in the middle. It is one of their immediate targets and something that would initially make sense. But then again, if one recalls how the two sides parted ways, it was not the prettiest of separations. And while Boogie is open to returning to his former team, the idea of it prospering holds low chances according to Yahoo Sports.

After spending his first six and half seasons with the Kings, Cousins was traded by the King to the Pelicans. Per the statement of Vlade Divac at the time and reported by Adrian Wojnarowski, he clearly stressed that ‘winning begins with culture and character matters’. And while the four-time NBA All-Star has matured since then, it does not look like the Kings are coy to the idea of reuniting with their former star.

Cousins was due for a big payday with the Pelicans before disaster struck. He tore his Achilles in January 2018 and all the 28-year-old could do back then was to settle for a minimum deal. He signed a one-year $5.3 million contract with the Golden State Warriors and now finds his market testing the waters. Aside from the Dubs, there are other teams who are allegedly interested in him such as the New York Knicks. All that may have gone up in smoke following the acquisition of Julius Randle and Taj Gibson at the start of NBA Free Agency.

As mentioned in a previous post, the Warriors are open to re-signing Cousins. With their frontline taking a big hit after Kevin Durant announced his move to the Brooklyn Nets, keeping Boogie makes all the sense in the world right now. Still, it may all boil down to the kind of contract he would be offered. After short glimpses of what he can do for the Warriors in the 2018-19 NBA Finals, Cousins could seek a (slightly) longer deal and a fair amount of money – all depending on how healthy is heading into next season.
