NBA Rumors: Steph Curry Return Date This Week 'A Possibility' Says Steve Kerr
KEY POINTS
- Steph Curry has been out with a hand injury since October of 2019
- Curry was set to play last week but was pushed back due to his lack of scrimmage time
- Steve Kerr shares that Thursday against the Raptors is a possibility for his return
Steph Curry has been out of action since October when he took an awkward fall against the Phoenix Suns. He broke the second metacarpal in his left hand and has been recovering from surgery ever since.
The Warriors have been out of the playoff picture with the absence of their franchise player. This year’s team has been a stark contrast of the Warriors of previous years. Coming from five straight NBA Finals appearances, the Bay Area has seen a significantly different squad for the past few months. The team acquired D’Angelo Russell in the offseason but shipped him away during the trade deadline for former number one overall pick Andrew Wiggins.
The team is struggling with their 13-48 standing, as they’re last in the Western Conference. While a playoff push is out of the picture for this year, ending it on a high note can add a little momentum boost for the squad. Curry’s return can push the team to a stronger finish but his return has also been set back.
While reports have circulated that he was cleared for action against the Washington Wizards last Sunday, head coach Steve Kerr said that he would still need to get in more scrimmage time in. With that, he is currently placed in the developmental team of Golden State. As the team is on the road, Curry is getting some time in on the court, practicing with his team’s G-League affiliate. The two-time MVP is breaking a sweat and getting ready for the season with the Santa Cruz Warriors.
Kerr says that Curry’s return might be against the defending champions the Toronto Raptors this week. Kerr spoke in front of reporters sharing he might suit up soon as Curry was able to experience again the physicality on the court. “Thursday is definitely a possibility,” he said.
Curry has only played in four games this season and has put up 20.3 points, 6.5 assists and 5 rebounds per game. The last few games of the regular season will be used for players to get accustomed together as the Warriors aim to bounce back next year.
